We don’t stay put

Laguna Clay Factory tour.
NCECA with all the clay nerds.
Galleries. Studios. Museums where we whisper like we understand things.

And then—

The zoo.
The meat market.
A factory that makes plungers.
Dollyworld. Obviously.

We are not selective.
We are available to be inspired at all times.

Some of it is important.
Some of it is absolutely not.

We take it anyway.

We don’t travel IN LUXURY.
Greyhound, bad coffee, no plan.

But somehow it turns into a party.

The Eras Tour.
(Tay Tay’s namesake.)

Then we bring it all back.

We mix it with things that don’t belong.
Sometimes it breaks.
Sometimes it works.

And every once in a while—

you get something you didn’t see coming.

DEDICATED TO

OUR CRAFT

calm down

(with Poppy Calder)

A restorative clay experience where you arrive seeking peace
and leave with a slightly damp awareness of your own instability.

You will breathe.
You will center.
You will absolutely overwork it.

Includes guided stillness, involuntary self-reflection,
and the quiet realization that calm is just panic… slower.

Clay in Chaos

(with Poppy Calder)

A step-by-step guide to chaotic healing.

Bring an idea.
We will destroy it immediately.

Clay will slump, crack, and betray you in real time. You will call it “intentional.”

No skills required.
Dignity discouraged.

“This is not therapy.
But something will happen.”

🥊 STEP 1: INITIATION (VIOLENCE)

“Meet the clay.”

You arrive hopeful.
The clay does not care. Karate chopping begins. Surfaces are bullied.

You:

  • slam it

  • wedge it aggressively

  • question your life choices

This is where optimism goes to die.

🧨 STEP 2: ESCALATION (CONTROL IS A LIE)

“You try to make something.”

That is a circuitous illusion.

You:

  • roll coils

  • attach things poorly

  • say “I think this is working?” (it isn’t)

The clay begins to resist.
You double down. This is your first mistake.

“This vessel contains your pain, your history, your need to be seen… and weighs eleven pounds because you were afraid to let anything go.” Poppy Calder

🧿 STEP 5: ENLIGHTENMENT (ABSOLUTE NONSENSE)

“You transcend reason.”

The clay becomes… something else:

  • a massive, unwearable medallion

  • a spiritual object no one asked for

  • possibly sentient

You:

  • place it around your neck

  • accept its weight

  • close your eyes open your heart

You are no longer making pottery.
You are in a relationship with it.

🥋 STEP 3: DOMINANCE (FALSE POWER)

“You assert authority.”

Authenticity shows up uninvited.
The clay responds with honesty.
You pretend it’s texture.

You:

  • compress with intensity

  • pretend you understand structure

  • start calling it “intentional”

You don’t have control.
You just have momentum.

🫠 STEP 4: ACCEPTANCE (DELUSIONAL CALM)

“You soften.”

You soften.
You reflect.
You become… reasonable.
It’s unsettling.

Feels like growth or gas.

You:

  • you’re gently poking a slab

  • smiling like someone who’s forgiven too much

  • the word “process” is calling you

This is not peace.
This is exhaustion wearing a nice outfit.
